About the event
Deadly Choices campaigns for and delivers tobacco cessation programs, community events, sport and recreation. Your donation will help support Deadly Choices in continuing to provide these programs to as many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as possible, ultimately raising awareness and helping to increase the life expectancy for Indigenous Australians.
Aboriginal health standards in Australia mean that almost half of Aboriginal men and over a third of women die before they turn 45. At all ages, Aboriginal life expectancy is lower than for non-Aboriginal Australians. Statistically, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can expect to live 8-9 years less than non-Aboriginal Australians.
Your donations and the money raised aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families to stop smoking, to eat good food and exercise daily. Deadly Choices also encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people to access their local Community Controlled Health Service and complete an annual ‘Health Check’.
